The TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council, (formerly the PALS Community Advisory Board) was initiated in 1979 through a special partnership among the volunteer sector (Junior League of Sarasota), the private sector (The United First Federal Savings and Loan and the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation), and the public sector (Sarasota County Public School System). It created a coordinated district-wide volunteer and partnership program that provides resources and support to the Sarasota County School District. The original design of the program included the establishment of the PALS Community Advisory Board, a separate 501 (c).
Three non-profit organizations established solely to support the school district volunteer and partnership program.
To ensure that volunteers, schools’ staff, and the community clearly understand that volunteers and business partners are supporting the school district and not another organization (e.g., Police Athletic League), the district retired the PALS logo and name in 2015. At the same time, in order to increase their support to the district, the PALS Community Advisory Board underwent rebranding to increase their recognition in the community as a nonprofit organization, resulting in a new logo and name: the TeamUP Volunteer & Partnership Council.
